Multi Cultural Teacher of the Year

Friday, August 18, 2017 - 1:32 PM

Congratulations to May Huang from the North Lake Senior Campus, on winning the Mutli Cultural Teacher of the Year at this years 2017 teacher awards night!

These are some of May's actions over the last few years in promoting AFL, at North Lake Senior Campus:

  • ‘Welcome to AFL program’ for 6 weeks for 19 male students
  • Helped organise the first ever Intensive English Centre (IEC) match against Cyril Jackson
  • Helped 6 of the students join CBC Amateur Football Club for the 2017 season

  • ‘Welcome to AFL program’ for 4 weeks with 17 male students and 14 female students
  • Helped organise round 2 against Cyril Jackson for the boys and the first ever female IEC match for the girls
  • 4 week multicultural program with 17 female students

May's partner wrote an artical about May and her acheivements and efforts in promoting AFL, and her personal passion to help others!

'Perhaps the most unusual thing about May is that, unlike all the other PE teacher finalists and award-winners at last week's ceremony, she teaches Maths!'

'In addition to AFL, May also runs seasonal sporting programs at North Lake for soccer, basketball and volleyball.'

"The best part is, AFL has boosted their confidence and social skills, while increased their cultural understanding of their new home. It's also given the players a great opportunity to demonstrate their commitment, resilience and discipline - all traits that show up in the classroom and day-to-day life."

May also continues to promote AFL to the IEC students and encourages them to attend Domain stadium to watch AFL matches and will also take 5-6 girls to the Women’s GF this Sunday afternoon at Medibank Stadium, Leederville.
